Espresso Zen: Transient (Drinkable) Art

I used to do this in my hot chocolate all the time! I see it works even better in espresso, due to the high color-contrast of the liquids involved. In any case, it’s quite a Zen form of creativity, this beverage-based art form, don’t you think? A bit like sandpainting, only tastier… (oh right, and also involving nowhere near the amount of time, focus, effort or dedication required with sandpainting).

Well, consider it Zen art-meditation for beginners, then. Of course, photographing the results takes away the whole Buddhist non-attachment element, making the act require no sacrifice, and thus amounting to nothing but another potentially commodifiable thing.

But you don’t have to photograph yours. Through their acts of blasphemy, you may be shown the path. The point to remember is that the value is in the doing, and even more so, in the letting go (which paradoxically, in this case, means drinking in).
