Songs To Play at my Funeral #8

Check out the latest footage for Nickolas Rossi’s film, Songs To Play At My Funeral. As always with these, it’s a rough draft, but the important thing here is that it features another cover of mine (Wonderwall, recorded in 2003).

I’m About To Get All Congruent On Your Ass

Bruce Warila :: Congruency diagram

I just read a pretty useful article for bands and musicians by Bruce Warila: Are Your Ducks In Order?

Mine sure aren’t. But I’m getting there. Bruce’s post serves as a good little outline to help you get focused.

Side note in which I contradict myself for no good reason (and while talking about congruencey, no less):

I know the map is not the territory, but in his diagram (left), the incongruent tower looks a hell of a lot more interesting to me than the congruent one. Maybe that means something, maybe not. It’s just a diagram. As far as the reality of what he’s talking about in terms of business, I think he’s right, because if you think of these as actual structures, which one is going to hold up better, and longer? Life isn’t always about which concept diagram looks more interesting. Usually it is, but not always.

In-House Concerts

Folk/acoustic/minimalist artists might want to check out Concerts In Your Home. It’s an organization/service/networky thing that links people who want to host house shows with people who want to play them (or attend them in some cases, but usually they’re invite-only).

Youtubers with little to no live experience but who are awesome (you know who you are), this could be a great way to get your feet wet. Even if you only do covers, I imagine people hosting private house shows might actually prefer that in many cases.

House Show

I found out about this via Andrew Dubber and thought it worth passing on.

When my album is done, and when I’ve conquered my nerves enough to have a go at real live performing, I might start out this way myself. Maybe I’ll even do a little tour if enough people in different areas want to arrange and host my shows in their houses.

Hey… maybe I could even get the whole Youtube crew together (Doron, Evan, Jeff, Nefe, Keith, Boo, etc.) for some kind of In-House Concert group tour! (guys?)

I do miss being a gypsy.

For Emma, Forever Ago (Bon Iver)

The CabinMusic is for falling in love with.

And I am falling in love with this album by Bon Iver. It’s becoming my life’s soundtrack (when I’m not making my own soundtrack, that is).

“Flume” and “Skinny Love” are especially dreamy (and I mean that in just the way a schoolgirl from the 50s would say it).

[Skinny Love MP3]

Says his label: “Bon Iver (pronounced: bohn eevair; French for “good winter” and spelled wrong on purpose) is a greeting, a celebration and a sentiment. […]

“It wasn’t planned. The goal was to hibernate. Vernon moved to a remote cabin in the woods of Northwestern Wisconsin at the onset of winter. He lived there alone for three months, filling his days with wood splitting and other chores around the land. This solitary time slowly began feeding a bold, uninhibited new musical focus. The days slowly evolved into nights filled with twelve-hour recording blocks, breaking only for trips on the tractor into the pines to saw and haul firewood, or for frozen sunrises high up a deer stand. All of his personal trouble, lack of perspective, heartache, longing, love, loss and guilt that had been stock piled over the course of the past six years, was suddenly purged into the form of song.”

(Merci to the wonderful Doron Diamond for persuading me to listen to this).

New Toy = Awesome! The Brooke = :)

Looky what just arrived on my doorstep yesterday.  Gotta go!
