For Emma, Forever Ago (Bon Iver)
Music is for falling in love with.
And I am falling in love with this album by Bon Iver. It’s becoming my life’s soundtrack (when I’m not making my own soundtrack, that is).
“Flume” and “Skinny Love” are especially dreamy (and I mean that in just the way a schoolgirl from the 50s would say it).
[Skinny Love MP3]
Says his label: “Bon Iver (pronounced: bohn eevair; French for “good winter” and spelled wrong on purpose) is a greeting, a celebration and a sentiment. […]
“It wasn’t planned. The goal was to hibernate. Vernon moved to a remote cabin in the woods of Northwestern Wisconsin at the onset of winter. He lived there alone for three months, filling his days with wood splitting and other chores around the land. This solitary time slowly began feeding a bold, uninhibited new musical focus. The days slowly evolved into nights filled with twelve-hour recording blocks, breaking only for trips on the tractor into the pines to saw and haul firewood, or for frozen sunrises high up a deer stand. All of his personal trouble, lack of perspective, heartache, longing, love, loss and guilt that had been stock piled over the course of the past six years, was suddenly purged into the form of song.”
(Merci to the wonderful Doron Diamond for persuading me to listen to this).

And thankyou in turn, for sharing with us. I really dig ‘Skinny Love’.
Sounds good. And I don’t mean it sounds good, he does sound good. I like the dreaminess you mentioned Brooke that I didn’t fully get on the first listen. I thank you three, Justin, Doron and thee. Awww I used thee cause it rhymes sort of.
Markus
PS Yeah I love the vibe.
I’m stuck on in a good retarted way to, ‘Emma’ and ‘re: stocks’.
too
say what?
Awww that’s just me being silly and stupid at the same time. It’s not so easy It’s like patting your head with one hand and circling your stomach with the other. All I was really trying to say is that I like the album too. And as things have a way of happening, Justin Vernon is playing here on the 28th at the Horseshoe.
PS Recipe for a Silly Stupid martini; 14 hour day till 2in the morning on a comedy we’ve been shooting for 55 days called The Love Guru.
Aww, you lucky bastard! Are you going to the show?
.
Also, you unlucky bastard. 14 hours, yikes. (But, “The Love Guru?” — Awesome).
.
Also, silliness whether in martini form or otherwise will not be tolerated. I am a SERIOUS ARTIST and this is a serious website, where serious people gather to discuss serious things in a serious manner.
Seriously?
Aww… I’m sorry. I keep forgetting how badly irony translates over the internet, and that not everyone thinks mostly in that manner by default like I do. No, I wasn’t serious. Silliness is in fact quite welcome in Brooke-land. :)

check this guy out. i saw him open for the yeah yeah yeah’s and he’s amazing… just thought i should share it with you and everyone else.
Not bad. Thanks :)
I know, I was joking too.
For some reason I thought when I had originaly explored Vernon’s site that I had found somewhere that I could buy his Cd and not download mp3’s, but now it seems I can’t find it. Anyway, ‘For Emma, Forever Ago’, is something I listen to a lot now. The sound seems to draw me near, and yet I’m not distracted by having my own thoughts either which is always a favourite music of mine. Actually just like you Brooke; there’s a lot of goodness inside.
Kinda reminds me of Peirson Ross
