The Day I Killed My Myspace

I deleted my Myspace tonight (gasp!). So sick of it, so bored and annoyed by it. It’s my least favorite part of the internet, and I want to cut back on the internet, so of course that was the first thing to go. I don’t know, I might create a musician’s account when my EP is finished… maybe… we’ll see.

I also turned off commenting on my Youtube videos. I know this will sound conceited or something (it actually has nothing to do with conceit), but after awhile, the compliments don’t mean anything anymore, especially compliments about something old. It’s not a lack of appreciation, but I’m focused on the present now, and the future, and getting better. Those videos are the past. Also, Youtube needs to make their comment-checking thing way more efficient, way less stupid. Come on Google, you’re Google, what the hell?

Amusing side note: my “friend” count on Myspace the day I killed it = 666. Probably because Myspace is the devil.

Pretty unrelated side note: I’m reading a book full of dangerous (that means probably true) ideas that I don’t yet quite know what to do with, but I know it can’t be nothing. It’s called “Freedom: The Courage to Be Yourself” by Osho. I don’t recommend it if you’d rather enjoy the security of being a camel forever, and if you prefer to know nothing about love, but otherwise, get it, bitches! (It’s only ten bucks, don’t be a cheap-ass).

Okay, love you, bye.

I noticed I had one less friend today! I’ve often thought of deleting my myspace account in a drunken self depreciating rage. You’re right… myspace is the devil and must be destroyed.

Add some Basho to your Osho.

    Sublime verse.

    “Summer grasses.
    Over every Warrior Dream
    It passes.”

Rephrased by Carl Sandburg in his 1916 poem “Grass”.

    Waiting for you CD!

Re: you youtube decision, in the words of President Herbert Hoover: “No comment, and don’t quote me.”

Wise Brooke …. wise. Seems like your shedding the things that waste your time eh. Some friends have invited me to face book and my space and all that and I thought shit, I don’t have time for this too. Happy New Year and my best to you and your loved ones Brooke.

Today I discovered you on Youtube, and my timing is (as usual), terrible. I’ll refrain from complimenting you and hopefully the thought will count more than the words themselves.

By the by, ‘Myspace is the devil’ has been my motto since last year on the subject. Another weird coincidence.

Kudos are in order, I suppose. I never really got into the myspace thing… too old, I am. (Not meant to sound like Yoda, but there we are)

As a long time listener on YouTube, I’d like to see you add your stuff to thesixtyone.com and let people discover it there as well. Not sure how it works for artists, as I am but a peon listener! It’s a nice place where non-mainstream artists (signed and unsigned) get to introduce their works. There are plenty of covers over there… I’d love to see your Superman cover there.

Btw, I’ve heard Iron and Wine over there as well. Guy puts out nice stuff.

Thanks Markus and everyone. I am indeed shedding the nonessentials, bit by bit. Energy and time are precious and the internet can be a black hole, sucking up both, if you let it.
    .
And myspace is just crappy and annoying.

Supergrover - thanks for the link! Never heard of that site but I’ll certainly check it out. Every bit of exposure helps, as long as there’s no new inbox involved. :)

I was going to leave you a message on your youtube stating how the MP3 of your cover of “Under the Milky Way” by The Church makes me tight in the pants. However, due to the constant site maintenance issues powered by google, I was unable to do so. So there you go!

Which is annoying at this particular ‘juncture’ because I’d really like to go the way I did with Myspace and boycott those …
