Highlights from Bedroom Concert the 1st (MP3s)

Bedroom Concert the 1st :: by the brooke (a tiny ocean).

Howdy folks.

As per a few people’s requests, I singled out some songs from Bedroom Concert the 1st (the ones I actually more or less finished all the way through) as individual tracks:

  • Wobbly Boat (original by me) — lyrics here.
  • Behind the Garage (Eric’s Trip cover)
  • Bang Bang (Nancy Sinatra cover)
  • I Love You, Always (Brian Jonestown Massacre cover)
  • If I Love You (Brian Jonestown Massacre cover)
  • Dear Prudence (Beatles cover)
  • Across the Universe (Beatles cover)

I also added album art & stuff to the metadata (I just figured out how to edit metadata! and that it’s kind of important to do that. So I did). Here’s all those ‘highlight’ tracks, plus the full concert, all .zipped up for your convenience: [ZIPPITY doo].

In other news…

Aside from my weird acoustic songs, I’ve been happily busy with another band I’m in (as the drummer), in which we rock out! It is fronted by awesome dude #1: Jon, and complimented by awesome bass player dude #2: Trevor. Here’s the thing, though. We’ve yet to choose a name. Here are bunch of possibles I’ve been spit-balling in my notebook over the last while, or that I’ve loosely ripped off from places:

  • Del Monte Fashion Peas*
  • End Times Puppet Show*
  • Time-traveling Jon and the Strangetalkers from Nowhere
  • The Party Scientists*
  • The Whistling Kidnappers*
  • The Flirting Hermits
  • On Watch For Martians
  • Naked Poets
  • The Storywhistlers
  • The Boxcar Beekeepers*
  • The Unanswered Questions
  • The One True Truth!
  • Animate Objects
  • Snow Angels (of ____)
  • etc. (I could do this all day).

And hey, whatever we don’t pick, feel free to steal! (But until then, BACK OFF. Get your own band name).

Soon I’ll probably post some clips from our jam/practice sessions. I just want to make sure it’s okay with the band mates first.

Meanwhile, I’m on the verge of finishing some more new songs, and have been cooking up some crazy ideas with pals of mine, like open-source albums, premonitory EPs and more! Tune in soon and tune in often.

im not a nudist or anything..but i really think “naked poets” is a good bandname.

by the way, what are “Del Monte Fashion Peas”?

  2. thebrooke on February 28th, 2008

Come on Luce, admit it. You’re a nudist.

As for Del Monte Fashion Peas, I will simply say that those little red stars beside things are links to related things.

you are one cool cat! and not only are you awesome, that knit cap you have on is also awesome. i think i’ve listened to all your mp3s and their beautiful.

The Unanswered Questions or The Flirting Hermits get my vote. Where do we vote?
I had to think of a few band names for this book wot I wrote a while back - Loose Fetlock and the Wailing Envy; Grin and Bury It; The Resignation Tendencies; The Consumate Expulsions; The Morning Afters; Dawn Salvation; Copious; The Knee-Jerks; Overtly Shy Podium Dancer. Feel free to pilfer, although I may copyright The Resignation Tendencies..!

i want to know where you are! ny? love your music, really

  6. thebrooke on February 29th, 2008

    @Ted - Shucks, thanks :)

@Vanessa - I live in Helena, Montana (or Newfreeland as I like to call it).

@Alex - Dang, those are pretty good. Some are pretty great. Thanks fer sharing!

Here are some more I thought up yesterday:

    The Candy-Stealers
    The Balloon-Poppers
    The Balloon Paupers
    The Candy-Stealin’ Balloon Poppers
    We Are Lion People
    Intergalactic Real Estate Agents
    Balloon-Poppers From Space

Actuall, pretty much anything “From Space” would get my vote.

There were some more but they have slipped my mind, like slippery little alphabet noodles. from space.

wobbly boat is tremendous for such a nice little song. Also, boxcar beekeepers is by far the best name in that silly list. Also, I’m in love with your talenty-ness.

  8. thebrooke on March 1st, 2008

Boxcar Beekeepers was my running first choice for awhile until we just dropped the whole matter of names in favor of ‘undetermined hobo name’ as our stand-in.

But I think it’s time we all just grow up, do the adult manly thing and pick a ridiculous silly name for our band.

I read a line somewhere recently which I’ve just rediscovered scribbled in my nerd-planner. Excellent band name, but I don’t think my Montana-born-and-raised male band mates, cool as they are, will go for it:

    Evil Queens Through The Ages

…especially apt because I have past-life memories of being an ‘evil’ witch/queen in ancient Egypt.

Oh by the way Derek, thanks for the love! I LOVE love.

    Simply I love you, girl.

Thanks Scott. I wish I’d paid attention in French class so I could make sense of your blog, but I’m enjoying the eye-candy at least. :)

    Hey brooke,

I really enjoy your voice and I find your song choices more then excellent. Thanks for your response to the youtube comment. Hope all is well in your world and you keep more music coming. I like the bedroom concert a lot as well. Behind the Garage is really made your own in your casual, unassuming version.

    all the best

Thanks Chef :) Any Eric’s Trip cover i do has a special place in my heart, so I hope I do it well.

  17. skieseye on April 4th, 2008

well finally i can post a comment for you (you disabled comments on your youtube videos). I cant express thoroughly how i feel but i’ll give it a try… i can sense though the cold screen of my pc that your soul is bare and innocent (in a very good way), and i believe you can have you dream of never growing old ( or anyway that’s what i interpreted your dream was), if you keep on feeding your soul and mind with whatever you are now (i dont mean drugs, lol, if you are though, just quit, though i dont think so)… also i dont know why i feel as if i already kow you (though i live in argentina, many miles away)… i know it may sound stupid, but i just had to say it…
anyway, you’ve got talent (i think that was the point above), keep it up no matter what!

    i would vote for:
    - On watch for martians is pretty good
    -the animate objects

  18. thebrooke on April 4th, 2008

    That’s really touching, skieseye. Thanks.
